Miraka, a pioneering dairy processing company in New Zealand, has unveiled the country's first green hydrogen dual-fuel milk collection tanker. This innovative move is part of Miraka's sustainability objectives and aims to significantly decrease CO2 emissions related to milk transport. The company, known for utilizing renewable geothermal energy, has been at the forefront of reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the dairy industry. The launch ceremony, attended by Agriculture Minister Todd McClay, symbolized a crucial step in Miraka's commitment to environmental responsibility. The dual-fuel milk collection tanker is designed to cut down CO2 emissions by 35 percent per vehicle, showcasing Miraka's dedication to a low-carbon future. The collaboration with Central Transport Ltd and Halcyon Power has led to the creation of a Rural Hydrogen Hub, laying the foundation for potential nationwide expansion. Tūaropaki Trust, a key shareholder in Miraka, provides geothermal energy to the dairy plant, emphasizing sustainable energy practices. The involvement of Halcyon Power, New Zealand's first commercial-scale green hydrogen plant, ensures a sustainable supply of green hydrogen for the tanker. Tahana Tippett-Tapsell, from Tūaropaki Trust, underscores the significance of this initiative in promoting a sustainable circular economy. Central Transport Ltd, Miraka's transport partner, views this collaboration as a forward-thinking approach to reducing carbon footprint.
