The project Green-H2 Namibia has released a report outlining Namibia's aspirations to become a major producer of green hydrogen. With significant renewable energy potential, Namibia aims to boost its economy through green hydrogen exports. The country has set ambitious production goals for green hydrogen derivatives, but faces challenges due to a lack of industrial infrastructure. Despite current high production costs, technological advancements and low electricity costs are expected to drive cost reductions. However, transportation costs pose a significant challenge, requiring a focus on high-value products like green ammonia. Pilot projects in Namibia spanning various hydrogen value chains are in progress, aiming to reach industrial scale production. The country's green hydrogen industry faces initial challenges in cost reduction and infrastructure development, but benefits from abundant solar and wind energy resources. The collaborative project partners, DECHEMA and ISOE, are instrumental in promoting scientific exchange and sustainability research for the green hydrogen industry in Namibia.
