While donor funding would not increase government debt, concessionary capital from institutions like the World Bank and European Investment Bank could potentially strain the already high national debt levels. The Namibia Green Hydrogen Programme emphasizes the importance of funding sources in relation to debt levels, with different sources leading to different debt outcomes. The country's approach aligns with global trends in financing renewable energy projects, utilizing models like blended finance, green bonds, and public-private partnerships. The green hydrogen industry is projected to create a significant number of direct and indirect jobs by 2030 and 2040, providing employment opportunities in construction, business services, transportation, and durable manufacturing. Hyphen Energy's executives highlighted the unique approach Namibia is taking in competition with other countries and stressed the importance of tailored policies to attract investments suitable for Namibia's landscape. Efforts are also being made to address workforce gaps through training initiatives to equip Namibians for roles in the emerging green hydrogen sector.
