Norwegian Hydrogen has acquired Aker Horizon's hydrogen project in Rjukan, Norway, with intentions to advance a 25MW production plant. This move includes taking over an existing power purchase agreement with Tinn Energi to ensure access to renewable energy sources. The company has also partnered with Nel to implement a pressurised alkaline electrolysis plant for the project, focusing on delivering innovative zero-emission solutions. Although Nel has temporarily paused alkaline technology production in Herøya due to slow uptake, Norwegian Hydrogen remains committed to contributing to the green transition. Aker Horizons retains the option to re-enter the Rjukan project as an investor and active partner in the future. The initial project plan involved producing nine tonnes of green hydrogen per day from a 20MW electrolyser system, supported by Norwegian government funding. This acquisition signifies a positive step towards expanding green hydrogen capabilities and promoting sustainability in Norway's energy sector.
