Power2X and Advario to Develop Largest e-SAF Production Hub in Port of Rotterdam
Key Ideas
- Power2X and Advario are collaborating to build a world-scale production and storage hub for sustainable aviation fuel and synthetic ultra-low carbon fuels in Rotterdam.
- The facility will produce over 250,000 tonnes/year of e-SAF using green hydrogen, making it the largest e-SAF facility announced to-date.
- Advario will develop a storage and logistics facility with a capacity of about 230,000 cubic metres to ensure a stable supply chain for the green molecules, enhancing the distribution of sustainable aviation fuels in Europe.
Power2X and Advario have announced a joint effort to develop a significant production and storage hub for sustainable aviation fuel (e-SAF) and synthetic ultra-low carbon fuels in the Port of Rotterdam. The Power2X facility is set to produce more than 250,000 tonnes per year of e-SAF, a non-fossil, synthetic fuel derived from green hydrogen, marking it as the largest e-SAF facility planned to date. This production will support approximately 7,000 flights between Amsterdam and New York each year. The facility will utilize imported green methanol manufactured from green hydrogen and biogenic carbon as well as locally produced green hydrogen. The green methanol will be sourced from regions abundant in renewable energy and green hydrogen. Advario's contribution will involve establishing an advanced storage and logistics facility with a 230,000 cubic meter capacity, complemented by marine and rail infrastructure to guarantee a reliable supply chain for the green molecules. The strategic location of this hub within the Port of Rotterdam provides direct access to European airports, prominently Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, positioning it as a pivotal distribution center for sustainable aviation fuels and e-fuels within Europe.
