Hydrogen Ukraine and AB5 Consulting have been awarded a grant by the UK to implement the H2U project, focusing on producing renewable hydrogen in Reni, Odessa region. The project aims to revolutionize energy production in Ukraine by utilizing renewable sources to create 'green' hydrogen, a clean and versatile energy carrier. The new plant will have an initial capacity of 100 MW, producing hydrogen for domestic consumption and export to EU countries. In addition to hydrogen, by-products like oxygen and methanol will be generated, enhancing the project's profitability. The production costs are estimated at 1.5-2 liters of water and 4.5 kWh of electricity per cubic meter of hydrogen. To ensure a stable energy supply, the project also includes the development of solar and wind power plants. The total investment for the plant, renewable energy facilities, and hydrogen transportation infrastructure is around 300-400 million euros. Despite the slightly higher current production costs compared to 'gray' hydrogen, experts believe that with technological advancements, the cost of green hydrogen will decrease over time. The project is expected to boost Ukraine's presence in the European market and create investment opportunities for sustainable energy development.
