RWE, a German-based company, has taken the first step towards establishing an industrial-scale green hydrogen hub in Lower Saxony by commissioning a 14MW pilot electrolyser in Lingen. This pilot project, situated at the Emsland gas-fired power plant, consists of a 10MW alkaline unit provided by Sunfire, a German manufacturer, and a 4MW PEM system supplied by ITM Power from the UK. The electrolyser's initial output of 270kg per hour will be utilized for testing the blending of hydrogen with natural gas to power one of the main turbines at the power plant. The primary goal of this initiative is to enable RWE to gather valuable insights into the development and operation of large-scale industrial systems at the Lingen site.
