Italian company Saipem has received approvals from RINA for its methodology evaluating materials in subsea hydrogen pipelines to ensure safety and material compatibility. This protocol developed by Saipem assesses metallic materials and welds for hydrogen passage, reducing the risk of material weakening. The certifications from RINA, including approval in principle and technology qualification, are expected to facilitate the widespread use of Saipem's innovative protocol. This accomplishment adds to Saipem's 65-year track record in offshore activities, demonstrating their expertise in planning, constructing, and installing pipelines for hydrogen transportation. Additionally, Saipem's hydrogen portfolio features SUISO, a cutting-edge solution that harnesses floating wind, floating solar, and marine energy to produce green hydrogen on existing offshore platforms. Launched in 2021, SUISO is set to be applied in the AGNES project, an offshore energy hub near the Adriatic coast of Ravenna. In another development, Saipem has enhanced its subsea pipeline offerings by upgrading technology from United Pipeline Systems for offshore and subsea use. This upgrade, initially designed for onshore pipeline lining, received DNV's qualified technology approval, marking a significant industrial milestone for Saipem's expansion in the subsea sector.
