The Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) has inked 12 framework agreements securing a substantial USD 64 billion in green hydrogen investments with the goal of annually producing 18 million tonnes of green hydrogen. SCZONE, covering 455 square kilometers and accommodating four industrial areas and six ports, stands as a key player in global trade operations, managing 12% of international commerce. The economic zone also serves as a significant employer with a workforce of 100,000 individuals. To bolster local production, SCZONE is planning a production complex and aims to manufacture critical components like electrolysers, wind turbines, and solar panels domestically. These initiatives not only promote self-sustainability but also boost local employment and drive sustainable industrial growth. Furthermore, SCZONE's additional investments in electric vehicles, pharmaceuticals, and building materials diversify its economic activities. The zone is also advancing logistical infrastructure with projects such as a desalination plant and a logistics corridor in Sokhna, set for completion by 2026, further enhancing its economic potential and contributing to sustainable development.
