Serbia is embarking on its first hydrogen pilot project, HyDSerbia, in collaboration with Leipzig-based Leipziger Energiegesellschaft, supported by EUR 3.5 million in funding from the German government. The project, aligned with Germany's National Hydrogen Strategy (NHS), aims to establish an integrated H2 pilot plant for large-scale industrial production and export of green hydrogen across Serbia. The initiative includes a feasibility study conducted by the Fraunhofer-Center für Silizium-Photovoltaik for the production, transport, and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives. The project timeline spans from December 2022 to June 2026. Additionally, the investment interest from KfW and the German government seeks to boost innovative renewable energy projects in Serbia, emphasizing green hydrogen. The pilot plant, comprising a PV system and hydrogen production facility, will serve as a case study for practical commercial use and future upscaling. The project not only aims to cover part of Germany's future hydrogen demand but also supports the decarbonization efforts in Serbia and the region, marking a significant step towards fostering a local hydrogen value chain and promoting sustainable energy solutions.
