Tecnimont and NEXTCHEM Partner to Establish Green Hydrogen Plant in Madhya Pradesh
Key Ideas
  • Tecnimont and NEXTCHEM have set up the first green hydrogen production plant in Madhya Pradesh for GAIL, with a daily production capacity of 4.3 tons.
  • The project aligns with India's goal to achieve 5 million tons of annual green hydrogen production capacity by 2030, contributing to the country's energy independence by 2047 and Net Zero target by 2070.
  • Green hydrogen is seen as a key player in the energy transition, offering solutions for renewable energy storage, industry decarbonization, clean transportation, and more.
Tecnimont Private Limited, the Indian subsidiary of Tecnimont (Integrated E&C Solutions), and NEXTCHEM (Sustainable Technology Solutions) have collaborated to establish the first green hydrogen production plant in Madhya Pradesh for GAIL (India) Limited. Located in Vijaipur, Guna district, the plant will have a production capacity of 4.3 tons per day using 10 megawatt-based electrolysers. This initiative marks a significant milestone in India's move towards low carbon energy solutions. The project, awarded in May 2022, is part of India's Hydrogen Mission, aiming to achieve 5 million tons of annual green hydrogen production capacity by 2030. By setting up this plant, GAIL becomes the first company in India to start megawatt-scale operations for green hydrogen production. India's broader goal includes achieving energy independence by 2047 and reaching Net Zero emissions by 2070. Green hydrogen is recognized as a crucial element in the energy transition as it offers solutions for renewable energy storage, industry decarbonization, clean transportation, and potential applications in decentralized power generation, aviation, and marine transport.
