Thermax and Ceres Power Join Forces for Green Hydrogen Revolution in India
Key Ideas
  • Thermax and Ceres Power have signed a strategic partnership to manufacture, sell, and service stack array modules (SAM) based on advanced solid oxide electrolysis (SOEC) technology, aiming to accelerate the deployment of SOEC technology in India and worldwide.
  • Thermax plans to establish a manufacturing facility for electrolysers and develop a supply chain to offer highly efficient and cost-effective hydrogen production solutions, catering to hard-to-abate industries like ammonia/fertilizer, steel, refineries, and chemical production.
  • The collaboration between Thermax and Ceres positions Thermax as one of the few global companies providing large-scale SOEC systems for commercial applications, contributing to the energy transition and accelerating decarbonization efforts in India and globally.
  • Both Ashish Bhandari, Managing Director & CEO of Thermax, and Phil Caldwell, CEO of Ceres, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting the potential of advanced SOEC technology to drive sustainable solutions, industrial decarbonization, and market demand for green hydrogen.
Thermax, a prominent energy and environment solutions provider in India, has partnered with Ceres Power Holdings plc to collaborate on manufacturing and selling stack array modules (SAM) based on advanced solid oxide electrolysis (SOEC) technology. This collaboration aims to accelerate the deployment of SOEC technology globally, with a focus on enabling cost-effective green hydrogen production. Thermax's expertise in heat integration and waste heat recovery will be leveraged to manufacture pressurized SAM and develop SAM balance of modules (SBM) and multi-megawatt SOEC electrolyser modules. The partnership targets industries such as ammonia/fertilizer, steel, refineries, and chemical production for decarbonization by offering more efficient hydrogen production solutions. Thermax also plans to establish a manufacturing facility for electrolysers and localize critical components to support the commercialization of large-scale SOEC systems. The collaboration signifies a significant step towards driving sustainable solutions and accelerating decarbonization efforts in hard-to-abate industries. The CEOs of both companies expressed excitement about the partnership and the potential of advanced SOEC technology to revolutionize the energy landscape by offering efficient and sustainable hydrogen production solutions.
