TotalEnergies and RWE Form Landmark Partnership for Green Hydrogen Supply in Germany
Key Ideas
- Secured largest green hydrogen contract in Germany for 15 years.
- Will prevent 300,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually at Leuna refinery.
- Part of larger strategy securing 200,000 tons of green hydrogen yearly.
- Contributes to 3 million tons annual CO2 reduction goal by 2030.
TotalEnergies and RWE have entered into a significant agreement to supply 30,000 tons of green hydrogen per year to TotalEnergies' Leuna refinery in Germany, starting in 2030. This 15-year contract marks the largest green hydrogen deal from an electrolyzer in Germany. The green hydrogen will be generated by a 300 MW electrolyzer in Lingen managed by RWE and transported through a 600 km pipeline to the refinery, aiming to prevent 300,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually from 2030 onwards. The initiative aligns with TotalEnergies' broader strategy to reduce the carbon footprint of its European refineries by securing contracts for over 200,000 tons of green and renewable hydrogen yearly. The company targets a substantial reduction of approximately three million tons of CO2 emissions by 2030.
