In the Port of Rotterdam, Power2X and Advario are collaborating to establish a prominent global hub for the production and storage of synthetic ultra-low carbon fuels and sustainable aviation fuel. The project envisions the production of more than 250,000 tonnes of e-SAF annually, derived from green hydrogen, positioning it as the largest e-SAF installation to date. By utilizing green methanol from regions abundant in green hydrogen and renewable energy sources, the facility ensures a sustainable supply chain for the production of eco-friendly fuels. Advario's development of a state-of-the-art storage and logistics facility, complemented by rail and marine infrastructure, further enhances the efficiency of the operation. The initiative not only supports green innovation and Europe's decarbonization ambitions but also aligns with the ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation requirements to increase the adoption of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). With a 40% contribution towards this mandate, the hub in Rotterdam plays a crucial role in reducing lifecycle carbon emissions by 90% compared to traditional jet fuel. This transformation of the former Aluchemie site into a center for energy solutions symbolizes a commitment to future-proof solutions and sustainable practices within the aviation industry, emphasizing the importance of e-fuels and sustainable aviation fuels in combating climate change.
