Infrastructure investment firm White Summit Capital is set to invest 250 million euros in a green hydrogen and methanol plant in Gijon, Spain. The plant, located in the port area of Gijon in the Asturias region, will utilize green hydrogen and captured carbon dioxide to produce e-methanol. The aim of the investment is to cater to the growing demand for cleaner fuels in the shipping industry to reduce emissions. This green methanol production, using renewable energy-derived hydrogen and captured CO2, is crucial for decarbonizing industries that are challenging to electrify, such as maritime transport. The project, supported by European Union funds, will have an initial 50 MW electrolysis capacity to generate 100,000 metric tons of green methanol annually. There are plans to expand the capacity to 100 MW subsequently. White Summit's green hydrogen subsidiary HyFive will oversee the investment, reinforcing the company's commitment to the green transition. White Summit focuses on sustainable energy investments, with a portfolio that includes companies like Zunder and Ferbgas Renewable, aligning with their vision for decarbonization in various sectors. This significant investment signifies a strong push towards sustainable energy practices and marks a step forward in the adoption of green hydrogen technologies in Spain.
