Innovate UK and the UK Department for Transport, in collaboration with project partners Forth Ports, Targe Towing, Logan Energy, PlusZero, and Waterwhelm, unveiled the world’s first Green Hydrogen Shore Power Demonstrator at the Port of Leith in Scotland. This innovative project aims to use clean, green hydrogen energy to reduce carbon emissions from vessels while berthed in port. The initiative integrates advanced water treatment, waste heat utilization, and hydrogen production to provide clean shore power for maritime operations. The Port of Leith now powers its large tugs with green hydrogen when they are tied up, showcasing the potential for a hydrogen economy in Scotland. The Scottish Government is committed to supporting the development of the hydrogen sector to achieve net-zero ambitions. The project, funded by the UK Department for Transport, is part of the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition Round 4 and aligns with the UK's efforts to decarbonize the domestic maritime sector. The Green Hydrogen Shore Power Demonstrator demonstrates the power of collaborative innovation in driving the net-zero transition and growing the UK economy while meeting climate commitments.
