Lithuania's Energy Minister Žygimantas Vaičiūnas proposed the joint production of electricity among the Baltic states, emphasizing the need for adequate reserves and potential benefits of additional capacities. The discussions include the possibility of creating a hydrogen corridor or capacity reserve, with considerations for solutions like a gas-fired power plant. Estonia's Minister of Climate Yoko Alender clarified that there are no immediate plans for a shared power plant but highlighted the importance of better coordination of dispatchable capacities. Collaboration on promoting renewable energy and exploring export opportunities, particularly focusing on hydrogen or methanol to countries like Germany and Central Europe, has been suggested. Additionally, efforts to strengthen electricity connections, such as Lithuania's enhanced link with Poland and preparations to disconnect from the Russian grid, are underway to bolster energy independence and security in the region. Despite differing viewpoints on the necessity for new production capacities, there is a shared understanding among Baltic states on the significance of coordinated dispatchable capacities.
