Chile has marked a milestone in sustainable transport by introducing its first hydrogen-powered passenger bus, manufactured entirely within the country. The innovative vehicle was unveiled during a special ceremony, representing a significant stride towards combating environmental pollution and endorsing clean energy solutions. Developed with the collaboration of public and private entities, the bus was praised during a presidential address for its role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. With an initial investment surpassing US$830,000, the project aims to offer advanced transportation solutions, particularly targeting mining operations. Operating on a hydrogen fuel cell that produces electricity stored in a battery, the bus can cover up to 600 kilometers on a single charge, emitting only heat and water as by-products. This eco-friendly approach positions the bus as a sustainable alternative to conventional transport methods. Plans for testing the hydrogen bus in 2025 include demonstration runs across diverse regions and educational showcases in communities and schools, further emphasizing the commitment towards cleaner and more efficient transportation solutions.
