Clean Energy has been awarded a contract to build a hydrogen fueling station for the Riverside Transit Agency in California, marking their second hydrogen transportation project in the Inland Empire region. The station will be designed to provide hydrogen supply and maintenance services for RTA's private access station in Riverside. Initially, the agency plans to operate five hydrogen fuel cell buses, with a goal of expanding to over 100 hydrogen-powered buses in the next ten years. A $5.1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation will allow RTA to purchase five 40-foot hydrogen fuel cell electric buses, aiding their transition to a zero-emission vehicle fleet by 2026. Hydrogen fuel cells are highlighted for their lack of carbon emissions and their ability to offer greater range and quicker refueling compared to electric vehicles. Clean Energy, known for its work in renewable natural gas infrastructure, operates numerous RNG fueling stations in the U.S. and Canada, sourcing its supply from RNG production facilities at dairy farms. The company's recent collaborations include expanding an RNG station in Carson with Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts and opening new compressed natural gas fueling stations in western Canada with Tourmaline.
