Element Fuels Holdings, LLC has announced the completion of site preparation and pre-construction for a groundbreaking hydrogen-powered clean fuels refinery and combined-cycle power plant within the Port of Brownsville, Texas. The complex is designed to process domestic high gravity shale oil into high-octane, low-carbon fuels, reliable electricity, and low-carbon hydrogen. Element Fuels plans to produce in excess of 160,000 barrels per day of finished gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel, focusing on reducing carbon emissions and advancing sustainability in the refinery space. The refinery aims to be operational by 2027, utilizing innovative technologies to produce cleaner, higher-quality fuels and recycle hydrogen. By generating low-carbon hydrogen to meet its own fuel demands and supply surplus for electricity production, the facility will significantly reduce CO2 emissions. This initiative represents a step forward in the energy transition towards renewable and lower-carbon sources. Element Fuels' project is expected to create hundreds of jobs with above-market wages, contributing to the South Texas economy and providing workforce training and development.
