Essar Energy Transition (EET) has acquired Thornton Science Park in the UK's north west to establish a cutting-edge energy transition hub with a focus on hydrogen fuel technologies. The 66-acre park will serve as the headquarters for EET Fuels, EET Hydrogen, EET Hydrogen Power, and Stanlow Terminals. EET aims to transform Stanlow Manufacturing Complex into the UK's first low-carbon refinery, develop a large-scale low-carbon hydrogen production hub, build Europe's first hydrogen-fueled combined heat and power plant, and enhance transport and storage infrastructure for biofuels and new energies. The CEO of EET Fuels, Deepak Maheshwari, highlighted that this acquisition is a crucial step towards creating Europe's leading integrated energy transition hub. EET's $3 billion investment in the north west region underscores its commitment to climate change mitigation, energy security improvement, and sustainable manufacturing practices. Recent developments include the establishment of EET Hydrogen Power to facilitate the development of a 125MW hydrogen-powered combined heat and power plant. EET Hydrogen is also in final negotiations with the UK Government for a 350MW hydrogen plant, emphasizing low-carbon production and significant CO2 capture.
