Essar Energy Transition (EET), formerly known as Essar Oil UK, has reached a significant milestone by advancing its Hydrogen Fuel Switching project at the Stanlow Refinery in the UK. The project involves utilizing hydrogen provided by EET Hydrogen, a hydrogen-ready combined heat and power plant to be constructed at the refinery. EET Fuels has engaged Wood to oversee the final designs of the fuel system and core infrastructure modifications required for the successful integration of hydrogen. This move is a crucial step towards the final investment decision (FID) on the hydrogen fuel switching project, anticipated in the coming year. The initiative, which includes switching fuel to assets like the hydrogen-ready crude distiller furnace, is a pioneering effort in the UK refining industry. The furnace is designed to operate on 100% hydrogen or a fuel-gas mix, contributing to emissions reduction at the Stanlow Refinery by an estimated 0.2 million tonnes annually once fully operational. The project's progression underscores EET Fuels' commitment to reducing CO2 emissions at the Stanlow Refinery by an ambitious 95% by 2030. Deepak Maheshwari, CEO of EET Fuels, expressed confidence in the project's positive impact on the UK's industrial landscape and emphasized the importance of hydrogen fuel switching in achieving sustainability goals.
