Extreme E, known for its premium off-road electric vehicle racing series, has made a significant pivot towards hydrogen with the announcement of Extreme H. The rebranding comes with the unveiling of a hydrogen-powered race car named Pioneer 25, designed to lead the transition to hydrogen as a fuel source. The inaugural season of Extreme H is scheduled to kick off in April 2025 in Saudi Arabia, followed by races in the UK, Germany, Italy, and the US. Founder and CEO Alejandro Agag highlighted the broader goal of the shift to hydrogen, stating that it's not just about e-mobility but also about creating sustainable power solutions applicable in various settings. The move to Extreme H aims to showcase the viability of hydrogen as a fuel source, test the hydrogen ecosystem including recharging and transportation, and help establish a market for hydrogen. The flagship race car, Pioneer 25, is equipped with a 75kW hydrogen fuel cell, symbolizing a significant step towards promoting green power solutions in motorsports.
