- The projects involve various companies testing HFC goods vehicles for cross-boundary transport and coaches for local and cross-boundary passenger services.
- Progress includes approval of 26 hydrogen energy trial projects, certification of HFC street washing vehicles, and upcoming operational trials of a public hydrogen filling station.
- The government is advancing hydrogen development with safety regulations through legislation and plans for an International Hydrogen Development Symposium in 2025.
The Environment & Ecology Bureau in Hong Kong has recently approved eight new trial projects on hydrogen fuel technology. These projects, led by the Inter-departmental Working Group on Using Hydrogen as Fuel, include various applications such as HFC goods vehicles for cross-boundary transport and coaches for local and cross-boundary passenger services. Companies like International New Energy Industry Alliance, Wing Tat Cargo & Trading, and China Travel Tours Transportation Services are involved in these initiatives. The projects also focus on the provision of electricity through hydrogen power generation equipment for charging electric vehicles at commercial buildings and construction sites. So far, the working group has given agreement-in-principle to a total of 26 hydrogen energy trial projects, with some projects already passing examinations and receiving certification. Sinopec (Hong Kong) has completed testing for a public hydrogen filling station, with operational trials expected in the near future. Additionally, the government aims to enhance safety regulations for hydrogen fuel with the Gas Safety (Amendment) Bill 2025 and is planning the International Hydrogen Development Symposium 2025 to further advance hydrogen development in Hong Kong.
