Danish company Floating Power Plant has chosen a Siemens Gamesa wind turbine for a groundbreaking project off the coast of Gran Canaria, Spain. The project, named Seaworthy and supported by a 26 million euro grant from the European Commission, will showcase the integration of floating wind, wave energy, and hydrogen production technologies. The selected 4.3 MW wind turbine will be part of Floating Power Plant's P-Demo technology, which also includes a 0.8 MW wave energy converter and a hydrogen system with an electrolyzer, energy storage, and a fuel cell. This combination is expected to deliver 11.05 GWh of renewable electricity per annum to the grid. Laura Volta Roqueta, a senior wind turbine engineer at Floating Power Plant, expressed confidence in the turbine's suitability for the project's requirements. The initiative marks a significant step towards sustainable energy solutions, demonstrating the potential of combining diverse renewable sources for efficient electricity generation and hydrogen storage. The Seaworthy project is set to pioneer the world's first wind-wave-hydrogen unit, showcasing the advancements in technology integration and sustainable energy practices.
