Hyundai has announced the appointment of Jose Muñoz as its first global co-CEO, marking a significant milestone as the first non-Korean to hold this position in the company's 57-year history. Muñoz, who previously served as the chief operating officer, has been credited with driving profitability for Hyundai through sales optimization and margin management. His leadership has led to record sales and financial success for Hyundai and Genesis in the North American market. Despite these achievements, Hyundai is facing challenges in the US, such as potential tariffs and cuts to EV subsidies. Muñoz's tenure coincides with Hyundai's focus on global electrification, with plans to launch over 20 EV models by 2030, including the Ioniq 9 flagship. In addition to electric vehicles, Muñoz will prioritize the promotion of hydrogen power, with Hyundai investing in hydrogen as an alternative energy solution and expanding its lineup of fuel cell vehicles, including the upcoming Nexo model.
