The construction of Lithuania’s first electric hydrogen-powered vessel in Klaipėda, commissioned by the Klaipėda State Seaport Authority, has reached an advanced stage. The vessel's core structure has been moved into the water and will undergo final system installations, including engine room equipment, electrical wiring, main engines, and a hydrogen system before it can begin operations. The vessel, costing €12 million, is being built by West Baltic Shipyard in collaboration with Baltic Workboats. It will feature two electric motors powered by 2,000 kWh batteries and hydrogen fuel cell systems. Once operational, the vessel will be responsible for waste collection tasks such as stormwater, sewage, sludge, and garbage removal. With the ability to operate for up to 36 hours in the Port of Klaipėda without needing additional power charging, the vessel represents a significant advancement in green maritime technology. This project highlights Lithuania's dedication to sustainable practices in the maritime industry and signifies a step forward in reducing emissions and promoting eco-friendly transportation solutions.
