The implementation of Malaysia’s Hydrogen Economy and Technology Roadmap (HETR) is poised to drive both economic growth and sustainability in the country. Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Chang Lih Kang announced that the HETR is expected to yield an income of 2.5 billion USD (equivalent to 12.1 billion MYR) and make a substantial contribution to Malaysia's Gross Domestic Product, ranging between 49-61 billion MYR by the year 2030. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim also emphasized the country's advantageous position to explore the global green hydrogen market, which is estimated to be worth at least 189.19 billion USD by 2050. The government is actively working on developing the ecosystem and value chain for vehicles powered by hydrogen energy as part of the HETR agenda. Minister Kang highlighted that the focus will be on scaling up manufacturing processes and energy production to cater to the increasing demand while supporting the country's goal of achieving zero-carbon emissions by 2050. Additionally, the adoption of hydrogen technology is seen as a viable alternative to conventional fuels like petroleum and diesel, aligning with the global shift towards sustainable energy sources. This initiative not only aims to boost economic growth but also contribute to a greener and more competitive energy landscape for Malaysia in the future.
