Norwegian Enova Funds Development of Hydrogen-Powered Vessels
Key Ideas
- Enova awards NOK 300 million to Maris Fiducia Norway AS to develop and operate five hydrogen-powered dry-bulk vessels, aiming for zero emissions.
- The vessels will utilize a dual fuel hydrogen ICE combined with fuel cells and Zero Emission Pods (ZEPOD) for auxiliary power.
- Norwegian Hydrogen will provide green hydrogen fuel to ensure security of supply for the vessels, supporting the transition towards sustainable shipping.
- The partnership signifies a step towards commercializing hydrogen energy systems for ships and advancing the future of short sea cargo in Norway.
Enova, a Norwegian state-owned entity, has granted NOK 300 million to Maris Fiducia Norway AS, with HAV Hydrogen and Norwegian Hydrogen as subcontractors, to develop and operate five hydrogen-powered dry-bulk vessels. This funding is part of Enova's 'hydrogen in vessels' program, aiming to support companies using hydrogen fuel in vessels and promoting zero-emission vessel technologies. The vessels, managed by Maris Fiducia Norway, will operate on a dual fuel hydrogen ICE and fuel cells, along with Zero Emission Pods (ZEPODs) for auxiliary power. HAV Hydrogen will supply ZEPODs with a total capacity of 400kW, upgradable to 1 MW later, ensuring all auxiliary systems on board the carriers can run on hydrogen. Norwegian Hydrogen will provide green hydrogen fuel for the vessels, establishing security of supply. The collaboration marks a significant step towards commercializing hydrogen-based energy systems for ships and driving the future of sustainable shipping in Norway.
