A research team led by scientists from Turkey’s Final International University has developed a novel greenhouse system that harnesses renewable energy sources for efficient energy management. The system incorporates a semi-transparent PV (STPV) system, a battery energy storage system (BESS), and hydrogen storage to address the energy requirements of greenhouses throughout the year. By utilizing a hybrid energy storage solution, the researchers optimized the system for financial profitability and reduced dependency on the grid. The study utilized the GBO algorithm to explore different optimization scenarios focusing on NPV, energy independence, and overall energy management. The results of the optimization scenarios revealed the system's capability to minimize grid dependency while maintaining economic viability. The study highlighted the trade-offs between energy independence and financial sustainability, emphasizing the need for a balanced approach to greenhouse energy management. The research outcomes, published in the Journal of Energy Storage, provide valuable insights for developing sustainable and economically feasible greenhouse energy strategies. Collaborating institutions from Turkey, Qatar, and Egypt contributed to this comprehensive study, showcasing the potential for international cooperation in advancing renewable energy applications in agriculture.
