Spanish oil and gas company Repsol released its 2024 results which included a net income of €1.76bn, a 45% decrease compared to 2023. While the financial performance saw a decline, Repsol made significant strides in renewable energy. The company added 878 MW of renewable capacity during the year, totaling 3.7 GW in operation. Their renewable power production increased by 47%, especially in wind and solar, which saw a 67% annual growth. Repsol integrated various renewable projects including ConnectGen's 20 GW portfolio and initiated operations in solar projects in the US and Spain. They also sold their renewable generation business in France and Chile while entering into agreements for future offshore wind tenders. Repsol's 2024 strategy included reducing oil and gas production by 5%, investing over €1.2bn in low-emission products like renewable fuels, renewable hydrogen, and biomethane. Notably, the company plans to launch multiple hydrogen production projects in Spain in 2025 through electrolyzer installations in Cartagena, Petronor, and Tarragona. Despite the financial challenges, Repsol's focus on renewable energy and hydrogen production indicates a positive shift towards sustainability and future growth.
