Fincantieri and Viking have announced the development of the world's first cruise ship to be powered by hydrogen onboard, the "Viking Libra", currently under construction at the Ancona shipyard. Scheduled for delivery in late 2026, the ship will have a gross tonnage of 54,300 tons and will accommodate up to 998 guests in 499 staterooms. Designed for sustainability, the vessel will operate with zero emissions, thanks to a cutting-edge hydrogen propulsion system and fuel cell technology. This initiative is a significant step in the industry's decarbonization efforts and showcases Fincantieri's ability to integrate new technologies. The success of this project is attributed to Isotta Fraschini Motori's expertise in fuel cell technology, ensuring efficient power production for cruise operations.
