Viking is making waves in the cruise industry by announcing the launch of the world's first hydrogen-powered cruise ship, Viking Libra. Teaming up with shipyard Fincantieri in Ancona, Italy, Viking aims to set new standards in environmental sustainability with this innovative vessel. The hydrogen-powered ship will feature a hybrid propulsion system using liquified hydrogen to generate up to six megawatts of power, allowing for emissions-free navigation. With a gross tonnage of approximately 54,300 and space for 998 passengers across 499 cabins, the Viking Libra is set to lead the way in green cruising. Viking's CEO, Torstein Hagen, expressed pride in the company's decision to invest in hydrogen as a true zero-emission solution. Additionally, the upcoming Viking Astrea ocean ship will continue this environmental commitment with hydrogen propulsion.
