Yanmar and Daigas Energy Achieve Success with 30% Hydrogen Blend Cogeneration System
Key Ideas
- Yanmar Energy Systems and Daigas Energy successfully tested a 30% hydrogen fuel blend in a municipal gas cogeneration system, maintaining power output and efficiency.
- The demonstration at Daigas Energy's Carbon Neutral Research Hub showed potential for commercializing hydrogen-blended cogeneration systems for a sustainable future.
- The test highlighted stable operation with low NOX emissions, similar to pure municipal gas operation, by retrofitting the cogeneration system with hydrogen supply equipment.
- Both companies are committed to achieving a carbon-neutral society through technology development, aligning with their respective visions for a green future.
Yanmar Energy Systems Co., Ltd. and Daigas Energy Co., Ltd. recently collaborated to conduct a successful demonstration test involving a 30% hydrogen fuel blend in a municipal gas-fired cogeneration system. The test utilized an EP400G cogeneration unit manufactured by Yanmar ES, installed at Daigas Energy's Carbon Neutral Research Hub ANNEX Torishima site, along with hydrogen supply equipment provided by Daigas Energy. The results confirmed that the system could maintain its rated power output and power generation efficiency even with the hydrogen blend.
The collaboration aims to further enhance cogeneration systems using hydrogen fuel and other technologies with the ultimate goal of commercializing hydrogen-blended cogeneration systems in the future. This test showcased the feasibility of stable operation with low NOX emissions, comparable to running solely on municipal gas, by simply adding hydrogen supply equipment to the EP400G. Both companies are dedicated to realizing a carbon-neutral society, as evidenced by their 'Daigas Group Carbon Neutral Vision' and 'YANMAR GREEN CHALLENGE 2050' initiatives. They will continue developing innovative technologies and services that capitalize on their strengths to contribute to a sustainable society.
