Yara International has inaugurated Europe's largest renewable hydrogen plant at Herøya Industrial Park in Porsgrunn, Norway, with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre in attendance. This milestone marks a significant step in Yara's mission to decarbonize the food value chain and energy-intensive industries. The 24 MW plant uses electrolysis of water and renewable energy to produce hydrogen, replacing natural gas and cutting 41,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. Yara has already delivered low-carbon footprint fertilizers, part of the Yara Climate Choice portfolio, to customers like Lantmännen, showcasing collaborations for a sustainable future. The company is also focusing on producing low-carbon ammonia with carbon capture storage (CCS) to enable the hydrogen economy and reduce climate impact. With commitments to reducing emissions, engaging in CCS agreements, and evaluating low-carbon projects in the US, Yara aims to be at the forefront of the green transition.
