At the IAA Transportation 2024 event in Hanover, Germany, ZF unveiled its latest innovation, the Hydrogen Recirculation Blower designed to enhance the energy efficiency of fuel cell-powered commercial vehicles. This new addition to ZF's e-mobility portfolio works in parallel with the Fuel Cell Air Compressor to improve the operation of fuel cell systems. The Hydrogen Recirculation Blower recirculates unused hydrogen, minimizing hydrogen consumption and optimizing performance. Dr. Christian Brenneke, Head of Innovation & Development at ZF's Commercial Vehicle Solutions Division, highlighted the product's durability and contribution to reducing the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of commercial vehicles. ZF's innovative blower, with a high-speed electrical motor and integrated inverter, operates at up to 100,000 RPM, ensuring high efficiency and media mass flows. By efficiently managing water and inert gases in the anode path, the blower supports the longevity and efficiency of the fuel stack. The patented electric media-gap motor technology eliminates the need for active cooling and offers advantages in packaging and system assembly.
