AFC Energy has unveiled Hyamtec Limited to accelerate and commercialize its advanced modular ammonia cracking business, aiming to produce hydrogen at a significantly lower cost compared to traditional methods. The new venture, Hyamtec, will focus on displacing natural gas in the UK industry and electricity generation. It will target key sectors including industrial heat generation, ammonia conversion for power generation, marine, and mining applications, as well as purified hydrogen production for transportation. The initiative comes in response to the challenge posed by hard-to-abate heavy industrial sector emissions, with Hyamtec's ammonia cracker technology showcasing promising results in integrating with ammonia combustion engines to deliver high-grade hydrogen. Dr. Mike Rendall, Managing Director of Hyamtec, highlights the substantial opportunity to replace fossil fuels with ammonia, particularly in the UK where industrial users spend over £40bn annually on natural gas.
