Australia has launched its National Hydrogen Strategy, aiming to establish the country as a global leader in clean energy. The strategy focuses on developing new clean energy manufacturing capabilities and leveraging export opportunities to become a key player in green energy supply chains. With collaboration between governments and industry leaders, the strategy lays out four key objectives supported by 34 actions to scale up the hydrogen industry. Key initiatives like the Green Hydrogen Production Tax Incentive Program and the Green Hydrogen Headstart Program, funded through an $8 billion commitment in the Federal Budget, aim to boost domestic green hydrogen production capacity significantly. The strategy targets an annual production capacity of over 1 million tonnes by 2030 and envisions 15 million tonnes by 2050. With the potential to attract $50 billion in private sector investment, the strategy sets a clear vision for Australia as a leader in the hydrogen industry. Minister Chris Bowen highlighted the broader benefits of the strategy, including economic growth, support for communities, and a pathway for Australia to achieve net zero emissions.
