The Province of British Columbia is embarking on a groundbreaking project, the H2 Gateway, to advance the hydrogen economy and create new job opportunities in the clean-energy sector. Premier David Eby highlighted the importance of taking action on climate change not only to mitigate extreme weather events but also to foster economic growth and innovation. The H2 Gateway project led by HTEC aims to establish an interprovincial network of 20 hydrogen refuelling stations, predominantly in B.C., supported by new electrolyzers and a hydrogen liquefaction facility. This initiative is expected to generate more than 280 full-time jobs and reduce transportation sector emissions by an estimated 133,000 tonnes annually. With an investment of around $900 million, B.C. is demonstrating its commitment to sustainable development and reducing reliance on non-renewable fuels. Partnerships with entities like the Canada Infrastructure Bank are crucial for expediting the adoption of hydrogen technology and sustainable fuel production, ensuring the success of transformative projects like H2 Gateway. The Province's support through initiatives like the Low Carbon Fuel Standard reinforces its dedication to fostering a cleaner economy and attracting new investments in the clean-energy sector.
