The H2 Gateway Project, spearheaded by Vancouver-based company HTEC and supported by the province of British Columbia, aims to revolutionize the hydrogen fuel production and distribution network in B.C. The initiative, which involves the construction of 20 hydrogen refuelling stations – 18 within B.C. – and the deployment of three new electrolyzers in Nanaimo, Burnaby, and Prince George, alongside a hydrogen liquefaction facility in North Vancouver, showcases a significant step towards sustainable transportation and environmental preservation. Premier David Eby emphasized the economic and environmental importance of such clean-energy projects, highlighting the potential for job creation and reduced pollution. The project is estimated to yield more than 280 full-time job opportunities and enable the refuelling of up to 300 heavy-duty vehicles daily, resulting in a substantial annual reduction of over 130,000 tonnes of emissions. With a total investment of around $900 million, funded partly through B.C.'s low carbon fuel standard and a loan from the Canada Infrastructure Bank, the H2 Gateway Project signifies a key milestone in advancing hydrogen technology and infrastructure in the region.
