Celtic Sea Power Receives Funding for Offshore Hydrogen Project in Wales
Key Ideas
- Celtic Sea Power secures £887,000 from Innovate UK for the Milford Haven: Hydrogen Kingdom project focused on offshore hydrogen production.
- Dolphyn Hydrogen's technology will be used in the project to support offshore hydrogen production from seawater in Wales.
- Wales and West Utilities' hydrogen pipeline, Hyline Cymru, will transport the produced hydrogen to onshore infrastructure, potentially enabling 16TWh of hydrogen production capacity.
- The project aims to provide credible evidence supporting the role of hydrogen in Wales and boost confidence in offshore wind and wave energy projects in the Celtic Sea region.
Celtic Sea Power has secured funding from Innovate UK for its Milford Haven: Hydrogen Kingdom project focused on offshore hydrogen production in Wales. The project, with a total cost of £2.1m, aims to establish an efficient consenting pathway for offshore renewable hydrogen projects. Utilizing Dolphyn Hydrogen's technology, the initiative will provide engineering-backed evidence to support offshore hydrogen production from seawater. Transporting the hydrogen will be Wales and West Utilities' Hyline Cymru pipeline, potentially opening up a market for 16TWh of hydrogen. The Infrastructure Development Director at Celtic Sea Power highlighted the importance of maximizing offshore wind resources in the region to accelerate the transition to Net Zero. The project is expected to boost confidence in hydrogen's role in Wales and enhance investment in decarbonization efforts.
