China has released new national guidelines, the Implementation Plan on Accelerating the Deployment of Clean and Low-Carbon Hydrogen in the Industrial Sector, to boost the use of low-carbon hydrogen in industrial sectors. This plan aims to achieve the goals set in the Medium and Long-Term Plan for the Development of Hydrogen Energy Industry by producing 100,000 - 200,000 tons of low-carbon hydrogen annually by 2025 and creating a diverse hydrogen energy ecosystem by 2035. While progress is being made, challenges exist in securing sufficient off-takers due to limited demand and usage in public transportation. The Implementation Plan focuses on promoting low-carbon hydrogen usage in industries like metallurgy and refining and aims to develop a comprehensive industrial chain for hydrogen production. Key tasks include technological innovation in green methanol production, transitioning refining sectors to low-carbon hydrogen, and reducing system costs of renewable-based hydrogen. Financial support and incentives are provided to encourage investment in hydrogen energy projects, including subsidies for technological innovation and support for capacity expansion. The guidelines aim to establish a strong foundation for China's low carbon hydrogen industry and support its growth in the coming years.
