Clyde Hydrogen, a spinout of Glasgow University, has joined forces with Hebrides-based green hydrogen producer and distributor, PlusZero, to demonstrate innovative decoupled electrolyser technology in real-world settings. PlusZero will utilize one of Clyde Hydrogen's commercial demonstrator electrolysers for testing and operational purposes for a duration of at least 6 months. The partnership focuses on overcoming challenges in high-pressure green hydrogen production to achieve safe and cost-efficient scaling, potentially enhancing the alignment of renewable energy with hydrogen production. PlusZero has received financial backing from the Scottish Government's Emerging Energies Technology Fund (EETF) to establish its inaugural green hydrogen production facility at the Creed Hydrogen Skills and Innovation Centre in Stornoway. Scheduled to commence operations in October 2025, the collaborative initiative involving the Western Isles Council and the University of the Highlands and Islands aims to integrate commercial green hydrogen and oxygen production, hydrogen technology training, and innovative research on next-generation electrolyser technology. Additionally, PlusZero has the option to acquire an initial order of 10 MW electrolyser capacity from Clyde Hydrogen.
