EET Hydrogen and ENKA Collaborate on UK's First Large-Scale Low Carbon Hydrogen Plant
Key Ideas
  • EET Hydrogen and ENKA signed an EPC contract for the HPP1 low carbon hydrogen production plant in the UK.
  • HPP1 will have a production capacity of 350MW and capture around 600,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.
  • The project aims to decarbonize industrial businesses in the North West of England, creating jobs and driving economic growth.
  • ENKA's expertise and track record in complex projects make them an ideal partner for the initiative, contributing to global decarbonization efforts.
Essar Energy Transition (EET) Hydrogen has partnered with ENKA to establish the UK's first large-scale low carbon hydrogen production plant at the Stanlow Manufacturing Complex in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire. The project, known as HPP1, secured funding from the UK government in October 2024 and aims to have a production capacity of 350MW while capturing approximately 600,000 tonnes of CO2 annually. This initiative is a significant step for the UK's hydrogen industry, specifically the HyNet Cluster, and aligns with EET Hydrogen's goal of developing 4GW of low carbon hydrogen production to support industrial businesses in the North West of England. The collaboration with ENKA, a renowned global engineering and construction company, highlights the expertise and commitment to excellence that will drive the success of the project. Both EET Hydrogen and ENKA express enthusiasm for the partnership and the impact the HPP1 project will have on advancing the UK's low carbon hydrogen industry and contributing to global decarbonization efforts.
