The H2Med consortium's Call for Interest (CFI) results indicate a strong interest in expanding the European hydrogen infrastructure. With 170 companies and over 500 projects demonstrating enthusiasm, the network spanning Portugal, Spain, France, and Germany is set to experience a surge in hydrogen volumes. Spain is projected to exceed a production potential of 2 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) by 2035, necessitating infrastructure expansion. France and Portugal also show growth in hydrogen consumption and production, with the potential for substantial exports to Germany. Furthermore, Germany's Wasserstoff-Kernnetz initiative, approved by the Federal Network Agency, aims to establish a massive 9,040km hydrogen core network with significant feed-in and feed-out capacities. This network will bolster the nation's hydrogen production and import strategy, aligning with EU regulations for decarbonization. The collaborative efforts of H2Med and the German Government signal a positive shift towards enhancing European hydrogen infrastructure, fostering market development, and supporting renewable energy initiatives.
