First Graphene has secured a partnership to accelerate the Hydrogen Production and Safe Storage for Utilisation in Mobility Project, funded by UK and Australian members with a total cost of $3.72 million. The project focuses on developing novel lightweight impermeable cryogenic all-composite tanks (Type-V) for the safe storage of liquid hydrogen. First Graphene, as one of the nine entities involved, will contribute $382,000 towards the project, aiming to reduce hydrogen permeability and increase strength in composite systems using graphene-enhanced resins. CEO Michael Bell highlights the importance of efficient storage and distribution in the hydrogen industry, particularly in the aerospace sector. The project aims to develop solutions for a more efficient and safe supply chain, introducing a disruptive solution for the production and storage of liquid hydrogen. First Graphene will leverage its expertise in graphene nanoplatelets to enhance composite pressure vessels, improve hydrogen storage, and introduce benefits like fire retardancy. Led by Graphene Innovations Manchester, the project also involves industry players like Australian Sunlight Group, Slingsby Advanced Composite, and Hydrogen Aircraft Services.
