Companies from France, Germany, Portugal, and Spain have established an alliance to propel the European hydrogen single market through the H2Med Southwestern Hydrogen Corridor. This strategic collaboration, in line with the European Green Deal, targets the rapid implementation of the H2Med Corridor by the early 2030s. Emphasizing synergy with European objectives, the alliance will drive the decarbonization of industrial sectors and enhance the hydrogen economy. The alliance's focus extends beyond just the H2Med project and includes vital pipeline initiatives like HY-FEN. Noteworthy is the recognition of both H2Med and HY-FEN as EU Projects of Common Interest (PCI), underscoring their importance in Europe's energy transition. By connecting infrastructure and fostering alignment among members, the alliance aims to establish a trans-European hydrogen ecosystem. With key industry players onboard, such as thyssenkrupp nucera, the alliance envisions scaling production capacities and bridging supply-demand gaps. The CEO highlighted the critical need for swift infrastructure expansion to facilitate the hydrogen economy's growth and drive decarbonization across various challenging sectors. Moreover, a €2.5 billion investment is dedicated to linking hydrogen networks from the Iberian Peninsula to France, Germany, and North-West Europe. This ambitious transnational effort is poised to ensure Europe's access to renewable hydrogen by 2030, promoting affordability and sustainability in the energy sector. Additionally, transmission system operators associated with the H2Med project have initiated a Call for Interest to gather insights from stakeholders regarding renewable hydrogen usage along the corridor, fostering collaboration and feedback within the hydrogen industry.
