In Nantes, France, Lhyfe, a leading producer of green and renewable hydrogen, recently conducted a significant test by delivering 350 kg of green hydrogen to Géométhane for injection into salt caverns in Manosque, France. This test marked a crucial step in a project led by the DLVAgglo urban community and Géométhane to accelerate the decarbonization of the Marseille-Fos-Sur-Mer industrial site using green hydrogen. The injection of hydrogen into the natural gas system will be observed for several weeks to analyze its behavior.
Géométhane's initiative to store hydrogen in salt caverns aims to study the feasibility of using these caverns for hydrogen storage, which could aid in achieving energy balance and independence by managing energy source fluctuations effectively. The project envisions utilizing hydrogen extraction to meet peak energy demands and re-injecting surplus energy from nuclear power and renewables during low consumption periods.
Matthieu Guesné, the Founder and CEO of Lhyfe, emphasized the importance of hydrogen not only in decarbonizing various sectors but also in enabling energy storage critical for achieving energy independence. The use of salt caverns for hydrogen storage is gaining traction across Europe, with this trial providing valuable insights into the feasibility and effectiveness of this storage method.
Lhyfe, devoted to energy transition, is actively involved in producing and supplying green hydrogen at an industrial scale across Europe. The company's commitment to leveraging green hydrogen for decarbonization and energy independence is evident in its various projects and initiatives, making significant strides towards a sustainable and greener energy model.
