India's SIGHT Scheme: 10 Companies Secure Incentives for Green Hydrogen Production
Key Ideas
- 10 companies including L&T Energy and Reliance Green Hydrogen secured incentives for green hydrogen production under India's SIGHT scheme with a total capacity bid of 622,500 tonnes.
- The maximum incentive allocation for the second tranche of the scheme is Rs 5,400 crore, aiming to establish 450,000 tonnes per year green hydrogen manufacturing capacities.
- The scheme is part of India's National Green Hydrogen Mission with a focus on achieving a production capacity of at least 5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen annually.
- Companies must start production within 2.5 years from the date of the letter of award to meet green hydrogen targets set by the scheme.
In a significant development, 10 companies, including L&T Energy, Waaree Clean Energy, and Reliance Green Hydrogen, have secured incentives for producing green hydrogen under India's Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) scheme. The total capacity bid reached 622,500 tonnes, with a maximum incentive allocation of Rs 5,400 crore for the second tranche of the scheme. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy invited bids to establish 450,000 tonnes per year of green hydrogen manufacturing capacities. The companies securing incentives, such as Suryadeep KA1 and Green Infra Renewable, are required to start production within 2.5 years to meet the green hydrogen targets set by the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The scheme aims to promote green hydrogen production with an outlay of Rs 17,490 crore for capacity and electrolysers. It follows a bucket-filling approach where the bidder with the least incentive requirement is awarded the financial support. The National Green Hydrogen Mission targets a substantial production capacity of 5 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen annually, aligning with renewable energy capacity additions. The scheme's guidelines include a cap on the incentives provided per kg of green hydrogen in the initial three years of production, fostering a sustainable and technologically diverse approach towards green hydrogen production in India.
