Hampton Roads Executive Airport in Virginia is set for significant infrastructure improvements, with plans for a 36,000-square-foot hangar complex as part of the third phase of enhancements. The airport, owned by the Virginia Aviation Association, aims to boost access and opportunities for aviation stakeholders in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Investments exceeding $60 million from various entities have been allocated over the past quarter-century. Besides upgrading entrance, apron, and hangar facilities, the airport is preparing for the shift to alternative fuels like unleaded avgas and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) by constructing a new fuel farm. Additionally, the airport plans to support Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) by introducing electric airplane charging stations and a hydrogen production plant. Virginia Aviation Associates' ambitious vision includes transforming the historic airfield into a cutting-edge regional transportation center, building on past initiatives like a new runway, terminal, and air freight facility.
